Sophie's Kitchen Vegan Calamari is great served as a calamari appetizer with your favorite dipping sauce. Konjac powder, the key ingredient, is derived from the root of a plant native to Japan, China, Korea, and Indonesia and is widely used in Japanese Cuisine. It is also known as Konnyaku or Elephant Yam. Konjac powder is often used as a vegan substitute for gelatin in East Asia. It has almost no calories and is very high in fiber. Sophie's Kitchen Calamari is fully-cooked--simply reheat and serve!

Non-GMOs. 8.8 oz.

Preparation:
(Thaw the product in refrigerator enough to separate.)
Conventional Oven: Preheat to 400 degrees. Place the product on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes or until the breading turns brown.

Deep-Fry: Place enough oil in a heavy-bottom pan to fully submerge the calamari rings. Heat the oil on high heat. When the oil begins to bubble, drop the calamari in one at a time and cook for 1-2 minutes or until the breading turns brown.

Ingredients: water, konjac powder, rice flakes (from brown rice), canola oil, potato starch, beta glucan, turmeric, organic agave nectar, white pepper, sea salt, carrageenan (seaweed based gelatin), alginate (from seaweed), calcium hydroxide

I used to really enjoy octopus but haven't had much luck finding a vegan option. This is good! It has that chewy consistancy that I remember. The flavor isn't fishy at all but still very tasty. My kids liked them a lot.
Yum!

I really missed calamari, and these really hit the spot with some marinara sauce. Even my meat-eating husband says that they're a pretty spot-on substitute! If they tasted a little more sea-foody, I would have given them all five stars.
Great!

Really good! Just add a sprinkle of kelp powder if you need a fishier taste and you're good to go. Great with a tomato basil sauce!
